SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - A Sheboygan man faces serious charges stemming from a domestic abuse incident.

21-year-old Stephen Wilson faces charges of second degree recklessly endangering safety, battery, criminal damage to property, and obstruction.

According to a criminal complaint, officers were called to a home on Oakland Avenue Tuesday afternoon for a report of someone trying to kick in a door. When police arrived, they say they found Wilson outside, kicking on the door. He told officers his girlfriend had kicked him out of his house without a shirt or shoes on and he was trying to get back in.

Officers went inside, and talked with the victim. She told police that she lives in the house with her mother and father and a child she has with Wilson. She told police that she'd found messages on his cell phone from other women and gotten angry because Wilson had cheated on her in the past. Police say when she tried to get him out of the house, Wilson allegedly threw her against a punching bag and assaulted her. Police say he then took the victims phone and threatened to smash it before running outside with it. Officers say that Wilson then tried to drive away with the victim's phone, and she stood in front of his car to try and stop him. He allegedly ran into her and then drove off. That's when the victim says she called officers.

Police went back outside to talk to Wilson, who denied that anything happened and said that he'd only been locked out of the house. Officers asked him about the cell phone, and he told them that he'd dropped it out in the yard somewhere. He then spent 20 minutes searching for the phone with the police. When officers were unable to find it, they said they'd be taking Wilson into custody for theft, at which point then then allegedly admitted the phone was actually in his car which was two blocks away.

Wilson is in custody on a $2,500 cash bond and will be in court next week for a preliminary hearing.
