ADELL, Wis. (WHBL) - An Adell man faces felony charges after allegedly breaking into a neighbor's house to use her car.
27-year-old Carlton Hagstrom faces charges of felony burglary of a dwelling and joyriding.
According a criminal complaint, deputies were called out to a home on Church Drive Monday afternoon for an outstanding warrant for Hagstrom's arrest. When deputies arrived, they were unable to find Hagstrom. A neighbor told deputies she's seen Hagstrom transferring things from his vehicle to a red SUV that belonged to the victim and then entering the house. Deputies contacted the owner of the home and the vehicle, who told officers that Hagstrom was definitely not allowed to be in her home or drive her truck.
Deputies later took Hagstrom into custody, and entered the victim's apartment. They say they found damage to the doorknob of a basement door and the SUV's keys back inside the apartment.
Deputies interviewed Hagstrom, who allegedly admitted to being inside the apartment. He told deputies that he'd used an old key to get it, but it had gotten stuck in the lock and he dissembled the doorknob to get it out. He allegedly told officers he used the victim's truck because his vehicle had run out of gas and he needed to get to work.
Hagstrom remains in jail on a $300 cash bond and will be back in court next week for a preliminary hearing.
