Sheboygan Native Kate Redeker Talks About Being Miss Wisconsin USA

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) -- Sheboygan's very own Miss Wisconsin USA is speaking out after her time on the stage this weekend at the Miss USA Pageant.

Kate Redeker is a graduate of Lutheran High School, and was previously Miss Teen Wisconsin. She says her entry into the world of modelling was really quite normal. "I saw an ad on the side of Facebook, and I just read a little more about it and decided I might give it a shot. So the first year I got in the top 15, and all the scholarships that I won motivated me to compete the next year, and I won!" Redeker didn't place in this year's Miss USA pageant, but she was voted Miss Photogenic.

Redeker say the competitions can be pretty intense, and she really wasn't prepared for the first time she did a swimsuit competition. "That first year, seeing all the girls backstage all eager to get on stage in their swimsuits, I was really confused. Afterwards, I was like 'Wow!' That was something that I got over and I realized I could do anything in the world, and it made me love myself."

She says she'll be taking her scholarships with her as she continues her degree in psychology at UW-Milwaukee.
