Sheboygan School Board Picks New President, Discusses Possible Referendum

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) -- Sheboygan's school board had their first meeting after the spring election last night.

As expected, school board president David Gallianetti did not seek another term as the head of the board. The board chose Marcia Reinthaler as the new President, and kept David Gallianetti as the Vice President.

The board also discussed a number of topics after that, including the proposed school maintenance referendum and the search for a replacement for Superintendent Joe Sheehan.

Sheehan says the district is focusing their long term development on their youth risk assessment program, which could help prevent events like the Antigo Prom Shooting. "Our defense is having incredible discussions and relationships with our kids, so if there's a friend who may be in trouble, they go to somebody, so they get assistance before they think about any such tragic events or activities."

The district is still seeking survey returns on that referendum, and Sheehan says all residents of the district should have gotten a copy of the survey by now. "We are still collecting those, so if you've not going online or on paper, fill them out please. We want to hear from you." One of those items the district is looking to improve is the completion of the district's security upgrades. "You'd have to buzz into our schools, and we're getting there, but some of the schools don't have that. So again, we'd be up to date on all our security in each one of our schools."

You'll hear more from Sheehan this morning after the 8:30 news here on WHBL.
