MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WHBL) -- Five Sheboygan County vets were part of a trip of a lifetime on Saturday as they got their Stars and Stripes Honor Flight.
The five men joined veterans heading out of Milwaukee for their trip to see the memorials that were built in their honor. Spokeswoman Karyn Roelke says it was a great trip for all of the people involved. "We had a spectacular trip! The weather he was great, the weather there was great, we got to see a few of the cherry blossoms, and Washington DC rolled out a beautiful day for 140 WWII and Korean War vets from Wisconsin."
Spokeswoman Karyn Roelke says one highlight of the trip was a special visit to the World War II Memorial. "It's a beautiful memorial with a pool in the middle, and then there were reenactors and actually 40s and 50s dancers there with music that would try to dance with the veterans who could dance." Veterans got a chance to spend time at all the war memorials, were greeted on either side by marching bands and a welcome ceremony, and even got a Mail Call from their friends and family on the way back from DC.
The next scheduled flight is set for May 14th. If you want to donate or learn more, you can log onto http://www.honorflight.org and find your local hub.
