Sheboygan Schools Sending Out Facilities Survey

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) -- The Sheboygan Area School District is asking residents for their input on a facilities study.

The district is sending out a survey to all residents in the district to help explain and share information about construction and repair work that the district is hoping to do over the next few years. Superintendent Joe Sheehan says the issue is outdated parts of the buildings themselves. "There's some issues with some of our schools as far as what roofs need to be done and some of the HVAC work. It's a lot of the guts of our buildings."

He adds that the district last called for a funding referendum over a decade ago and promised not to come back to the table until now. Sheehan says this time around they're not asking for new buildings. "We're looking to actually expand, we're looking to replace some of our maintenance that quite frankly needs attention." Current estimates on the project would put any potential tax increase for the district at about $4 per household.

Surveys are now being delivered across the district, and Sheehan has one request for residents. "Please don't throw it away. We want to hear from you. That's why we're not just sending it to all registered voters, we're sending it to every household in the Sheboygan Area School District."

Survey results will be presented at the School Board meeting on Tuesday, May 24th and will also be available on the district website at www.sheboygan.k12.wi.us.
