SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - Four schools in and near Sheboygan County were named this week as part of the 169 schools receiving Schools of Recognition honors from the state Department of Public Instruction.
The only local school to repeat a recognition is Jefferson Elementary in Sheboygan, named for the eighth year in a row as a Beating the Odds School. That means they are in the top 25-percent of high poverty schools in the state, but have above-average student achievement in reading and mathematics when compared to similar schools.
Two schools, Cedar Grove-Belgium Elementary and Zielanis Elementary in Kiel, were named as High Progress Schools. That means they fell within the top ten percent of schools experiencing growth in reading and mathematics, and have achievements gaps that are less than three points between student groups or show evidence of reducing gaps.
Also recognized is Kohler Elementary as a High Achieving School, meaning they met all annual measurable objectives for achievement and have achievement gaps that were being reduced or less than three points between student groups.
All schools named for recognition will receive their plaque during a ceremony at the State Capitol March 14.
