MADISON, WI (WHBL) - Unemployment jumped substantially in the city and county of Sheboygan during the month of January. The latest figures from the Department of Workforce Development put the county rate at 7.3 percent compared to 6.1 percent in December. The city rate went up 1.4 percent to 9 percent. State officials said unemployment increased in every county and every major city in the state during January. The statewide rate is at 7 percent. The report indicates that the Sheboygan area lost 200 jobs in January but there are still 400 more jobs now than a year ago.
