Sheboygan, WI (WHBL) – She went through his cell phone - looking for the proverbal “Other woman,” and that’s what started the madness this time.
They both admit that it has been an on again -off again relationship, spanning the last three years. But their accounts of how the female ended up with a stab wound on her right thigh are very different.
It would take the obvious training of an astute dispatcher, and the responding police officer to unravel the details of what really happened in the early morning hours of November 10, 2015.
A 9-11 hang call rang in to the Sheboygan County dispatch center at 4:15am. The caller hung up. So, as is protocol at dispatch centers across the country, the 9-1-1 dispatcher called back.
A woman on the phone reported that she cut her leg while doing dishes. But, in a follow-up call from the Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Department, the woman told the dispatcher that she was stabbed in the leg by her boyfriend, 24 year old Antonio R. Slater. The couple was staying with friends on North 26th Street after falling on hard times. That’s where the stabbing occurred.
The details are outlined in a criminal complaint filed in Sheboygan County Court.
The woman says that she suspected Slater was cheating on her, so at around 2am, she decided to launch her own investigation by going through his cell phone - while he was sleeping. Slater awakened, and an argument ensued. This is where the story versions begin to differ.
The woman says Slater became enraged about the apparent invasion of privacy, threatened to end the relationship, and began packing to leave. Then, as the argument escalated it became physical. The victim alleges that she pushed Slater out of her face, and Slater punched her twice in the face. Slater then went into the kitchen and grabbed a knife, and barbecue fork, telling her not to put her hands on him again. She admits that she did, by grabbing his arm, according to the criminal complaint. That’s when the woman claims Slater stabbed her in the thigh.
Slater was located the next day and was taken into custody. He told police that the stabbing must have happened inadvertently when the two fell to the ground.
Slater also told the cops that when his girlfriend confronted him and accused him of cheating, he told her a lie that he was indeed sleeping with another woman because she would not believe him when he said that he was not.
He is charged with second degree recklessly endangering safety, domestic abuse.
