Windy Thursday Expected, Delays Intersection Work

SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - Anyone going outside this Thursday should be careful with their hair, hats, or anything that can blow around.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Advisory for most of today.  The advisory runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Sheboygan County and locations west and south.  Counties north of Sheboygan County will have the advisory in effect from noon to 6 p.m.  The advisory means sustains winds will be blowing at or greater than 30 miles per hour, or winds will gust at or above 45 miles per hour.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Mark Gehring tells WHBL News winds this strong can cause small branches to break from trees, outdoor items like furniture and garbage cans to be blown around, and damage could occur at building construction sites that are not property secured.

In addition, driving will be difficult at times as winds can buffer and move vehicles, especially those that are high-profile.  Also, power outages could occur if poles are blown down or tree branches come in contact with them.

The winds, and a possible wet forecast at times, has prompted the Sheboygan Public Works Department to push back a planned pavement reconstruction project at the intersection of South Taylor Drive and Washington Avenue.  The work will now take place November 19.
