WASHINGTON D.C. (WHBL) - It was about two weeks ago when Congress passed a bill that will fund the federal government through the end of the 2017 budget year, plus raise the debt ceiling through March of 2017.
However, appropriation committees are currently crafting legislation that will finalize the spending priorities the bill set forth.
"We’re going to run out of money around, I think it was, December 11th," says area Congressman Glenn Grothman.
He adds the time that is set aside to pass these guidelines is not enough to conduct the usual way of passing a federal budget. "Under normal circumstances the goal would be to pass 12, what they call appropriation bills. In other words, rather than pass one huge budget you pass 12 separate items for different parts of the budget. That’s not going to happen due to a lack of time."
Grothman says in its place will be fewer bills that will take up more of the budget. "Which is something that I don’t care for, in which kind of everything will be in one bill and you are going to have to decide whether you are going to vote for the one bill for the good part or the bad part."
Grothman adds there will likely be a separate bill that will deal with financial institutions, which he sees as a chance to reduce regulations for banks.
