SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - When it came to severe weather in Sheboygan County this year, most of the county had been lucky avoiding some of the worst storms to pass through Wisconsin.
That changed Sunday as a line of severe thunderstorms passed through Sunday evening.
Meteorologist Mark Kavinsky with the National Weather Service office in Sullivan says a cold front mixed with warm, moist air and wind shear to generate the storms that pass through between 5 and 7 p.m.
"Elkhart Lake reported one inch size hail," said Kavinsky. "There was a swath of large tree damage from Elkhart Lake into the Plymouth area. Also some full size trees down in the Plymouth and Mitchell areas with winds estimated at 60 miles per hour."
Power was knocked out to thousands due to the storms across the county. Both Alliant Energy and We Energies reported only a few hundred customers were still without power as of early Monday morning.
Sheboygan did not see as much damage as the western portion of the county, but a lightning strike is being blamed for an attic fire near the downtown area. Find out more on that story by clicking on the link below.
