SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - As severe weather moved through Sheboygan Sunday, it wasn’t the wind and rain that caused the worst damage in the city. A lightning strike is being blamed for an attic fire at 434 Huron Avenue.
Sheboygan Fire Department Deputy Chief Charles Butler tells WHBL News the initial call came in around 6 p.m. When fire crews arrived, flames were seen coming out of the attic of the home. Crews worked quickly enough to keep the fire contained to the attic, but smoke and water damage occurred in the home’s first and second floors.
Three people inside the home got out safely, and no firefighters were injured battling the fire.
The Cedar Grove Fire Department assisted the Sheboygan Fire Department at the scene by refilling breathing air bottles.
