SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - The Sheboygan Area School District is taking a wait-and-see attitude when it comes to voucher schools. Governor Scott Walker said yesterday he will include an expansion of voucher schools into several districts, including Sheboygan, in his budget. Superintendent Joe Sheehan says there are plenty of alternatives for Sheboygan students right now. He said the whole question of vouchers is being addressed by options in neighborhood schools and charter schools, but if the governor's plan moves forward, "we will have to see what the response from parents will be." The program allows students to go to private schools at taxpayer expense. Sheehan says it has to be discussed by legislators before final legislation comes out but, for now, keeping it in the budget bill will not allow for that discussion.
