FOND DU LAC, WI (WHBL/KFIZ) - In the grand scheme of things it may have little impact, but the Fond du Lac County Board passed a resolution Tuesday asking the state’s Transportation Department to continue its efforts to expand Highway 23 between Fond du Lac and Plymouth to four lanes.
The expansion was scheduled to begin this past spring, but it has been bogged down by a federal lawsuit and funding issues in the state budget.
Fond du Lac County Supervisor Dean Will says he knows how bad this stretch of highway can be. Being a former sheriff's captain he had worked fatal accident scenes, plus he lost family on that stretch of highway.
Will says the group that filed the federal lawsuit stopping work on the expansion, 1000 Friends of Wisconsin, certainly doesn’t have the best interest of Fond du Lac County residents in mind. He encouraged local residents to contact state legislators to ask for their support for the project.
The County Board unanimously passed the advisory resolution.
