Sheboygan WI (WHBL) – Three Alderpersons have called it quits from the Sheboygan Common Council within the past six months, a trend that in any organization might be viewed as the start of an exodus, and indicate trouble.

But, Sheboygan Mayor Mike Vandersteen tells WHBL News that the resignations of; Kevin Matichek, Eldon Burg - and this week, David Van Akkeren, are neither a cause for alarm, nor a call for action.

The Mayor says veteran council members are not losing focus amid the unusually high turnover. “I really don’t think that it’s affecting that council that much. When you have sixteen people on the council, there are still a lot who have been there a long time and are able to make all of the committees function properly,” the Mayor says.

Mayor Vandersteen notes that these three resignations are all due to unique personal issues for each Alderperson, not personnel issues.

Former District 4 Alderman Kevin Matichek is embroiled in numerous criminal investigations into alleged child sexual assault, and bribery by a public official.

Former District 1 Alderman Eldon Burg resigned last month amid health problems.

The Mayor says David Van Akkeren who represented District 2 resigned due to time constraints .
