Sheboygan, WI (WHBL) – Most guys grow up eager to get behind the wheel of a new hot rod. Or, at the very least, an ice cream truck stocked with their favorite flavors- and maybe hotdogs.
But, Devon Hugdahl is the proud driver of the John Michael Kohler Arts Center’s Culinary Art Car. “I just got certified to drive it so now, I’m very excited to be the person to drive it during the parades,” he says.
One look at the eclectic vehicle and it is easy to see why. It’s an ornamental double-decker, complete with a stainless steel, fully functional kitchen. It has a DJ booth, a killer sound system, and can hold up to thirty festive people on a hot summer day. More importantly, food is served from that truck, and it’s street-legal.
“The purpose is to bring farm-to -table food to the community,” says Andrea Avery, the community Arts Coordinator.
The Culinary Art Car is a labor of love for the arts center, which collaborated with Lakeshore Technical College and visiting artists in 2014 to make moderations to the machine in 2014.
Avery says the Art Car can be seen around Sheboygan this summer at local farmers markets, in parades, and on Thursday nights during the Summer Levitt Amp Concert series, where the Café will sell food to patrons. All of the food is locally grown.
