SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The Dorian Torres trial got underway Monday in Sheboygan County Court.
As you know, Torres faces a first degree intentional homicide charge for allegedly killing his father Emilio at the apartment they shared in Sheboygan in January of 2014.
Since the 19 year old defendant requested a bench trial earlier this month, the first day of the trial did not start with jury selection and opening statements. Instead, District Attorney Joe DeCecco began calling witnesses to the stand.
They include Torres’ mother Shelly, who was the person who asked Sheboygan Police to look for her ex-husband Emilio at the apartment after she had not heard from him for several days. She also had her suspicions after Dorian began acting differently after she had not hear from Emilio by asking for his father's social security number and credit card information.
Also taking the stand Monday were several Sheboygan Police officers who were at the apartment when Emilio’s body was found. Emilio was found wrapped in blankets and a shower curtain behind a bed spring in his bedroom.
DeCecco also entered in a number of photographic and physical evidence taken from the apartment, suggesting Emilio was attacked and beaten to death.
The prosecution will continue presenting its case Tuesday. Judge Terence Bourke is expected to rule on Dorian’s fate later this week. A guilty verdict means Dorian will receive a life prison sentence.
