SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - Martha Laning of Plymouth was selected this past weekend to serve as the chair of the Democratic Party of Wisconsin for the next two years.
What do the two local chapters of the Democratic and Republican parties think? They are what you would expect.
Anita Klein, Chairperson for the Sheboygan County Democratic Party, tells WHBL News Laning has been an active member of the party in the past, helping her gain the skills needed to lead the party into the 2016 elections. "Martha’s worked on different campaigns," says Klein. "She’s done work in our headquarters off and on; especially door canvassing, that type of thing with some phone calls mixed in with it."
Dennis Gasper, chairman for the Republican Party of Sheboygan County, tells WHBL News Laning’s election will not change the party from its big government ways. "I really don’t believe that Martha Laning can steer the party away from that, so I think we’re going to be pretty much up against the same type of political thought we are now," says Gasper.
Laning will be chair through June of 2017.
