SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Sheboygan Police are warning area residents of a recent increase in scam reports.

Captain Jim Veeser said the scams seen lately include starting a relationship with a scammer online who ask for money to pay for a fictitious task, or a scammer posing as a foreign law enforcement or medical personnel who says a family member needs money wired to another country to cover bail or medical costs.

Veeser says people need to be vigilant if they receive calls or e-mails like this at any time since scammers will be constantly looking for victims and they have access to technology that can help them try to get money from other people.  They will also adapt to different stories and tactics until they can find one that works.

It is recommended not to give out any personal or financial information if you question the source.
