SHEBOYGAN, Wis.(WHBL) - WHBL's radio signal has been picked up as far away as Finland. We recently received a letter from folks in that county informing us that they picked up the signal last November and asking for confirmation. Below is a copy of the letter and the attached audio.
Dear Sir,
Greetings from Finland! We are Jarmo and Vesa, two AM radio hobbyists from Southern Finland. We are writing to inform that we have succeeded to receive your AM station in Finland!
Every year in winter season we travel up to Lapland, the northernmost province of Finland. The area is ideal for catching fascinating long distance AM radio signals as yours.
Our reception of WHBL took place on 1330 kHz AM on November 14, 2011 at 3.00 AM Central Standard Time.
All thought the reception was a little challenging we heard at the top of the hour:
Jingle by female voices: "Newsradio 13-30, WHBL" and ABC news
To prove the reception we attach a short mp3 clip of your programme 3.00 AM CST. We would be happy if you could spare a minute to listen to the clip for verification.
This long distance reception was possible with Microtelecom SDR communications receiver connected to a half mile long wire antenna directed to your area.
Thank you very much for your transmission! We hope you can check the attached wav recording and if you find that it was your program, please drop us a line as verification. Wishing you and your staff all the best. We would be also interested to learn more about your station and programs. Waiting to hear from you soon.
Sincerely,
Mr. Jarmo Patala / Mr. Vesa Rinkinen
