SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - It’s been a bad year for whooping cough in Sheboygan County and the County Division of Public Health is out with a warning. Officials said there have been 76 cases of pertussis in the county so far this year - nearly half of those in the past two months. Most of the cases have involved school age children. The Division of Public Health says it is a very serious disease, especially for infants less than a year old, and it is very contagious. Officials are urging parents to take precautions if a child or family member is sick by staying home from holiday gatherings and keeping that person away from infants, young children and pregnant women. As they put it, “There’s no place like home for the holidays, especially if you’re coughing."
