SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - At a time when Sheboygan area softball teams are getting ready for the upcoming season, softball in the city of Sheboygan is in a state of flux. Citing numerous abuses by the Sheboygan Softball Association, which runs the softball program at Wildwood Park, the city council Wednesday night voted to terminate the contract with the SSA immediately. Waiting in the wings is the Mid Lakes Softball Association, which was estbalished last summer. Spokesman Mike Quarne says they would like to take over. He said they will be getting in touch with the city to propose a suitable offer to "provide the softball organization that this city needs and deserves to have a good softball program." The resolution - adopted by the council following a lengthy closed session - cites a litany of problems with the SSA, including failing to contribute money toward improving softball facilities, improper management, failure to control revenues and expenses leading to the loss of nearly 115-thousand dollars over the last three years while funding non-softball causes, attempting to prevent Mid Lakes Softball from holding a tournament at Wildwood last summer by threatening teams and umpires, and failing to work with the city to correct the abuses over the past three years.
