SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The Sheboygan Police Department will hold its next citizens’ academy specifically for the city’s Hmong community. The academy will be similar to past ones the department has held, but will be presented in Hmong to reach those who have limited English language ability.
This academy is a joint venture between the department and Sheboygan’s Hmong Mutual Assistance Association; thought of by Officer Bruce Yang, who is the association’s president. The intent is to help build relationships between the two groups and work together to confront a growing crime and disorder problem as the Hmong population increases.
The academy will run Sunday evenings beginning October 6. Those interested are asked to sign up by September 30 either online at the police department’s website, at the front desk of the police department, or through the Hmong Mutual Assistance Association.
