FOND DU LAC, WI (WHBL) - We now know the identity of the Plymouth woman who allegedly caused a deadly two-vehicle accident in eastern Fond Du Lac County Wednesday morning. 51-year-old Laurie Garcia made an initial appearance in Fond Du Lac County Court Thursday and was charged with homicide by negligent use of a vehicle.
Authorities say Garcia was traveling on Highway 23 to get to work in Beaver Dam when she passed a line of cars. This caused a vehicle in the opposite lane, driven by 53-year-old Kathleen Fee of Fond du Lac, to swerve to miss her. Lee’s vehicle lost control and struck another vehicle head on. Lee was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Sheriff officials stopped Garcia west of Fond du Lac and arrested her. Witnesses say they saw Garcia’s vehicle passing other vehicle before and after the accident.
She remains in custody on a $25,000 cash bond and will be back in court for a preliminary hearing on September 12.
