SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - The city of Sheboygan finally has a 2013 budget. The city council voted 12-4 Friday night to override the vetos that Mayor Terry Van Akkeren made to the budget. Van Akkeren vetoed the garbage collection fee, along with several other accounts which he believes were over budgeted on Thursday morning. But aldermen stuck with the Finance Committee's budget, meaning that the garbage collection fee will remain. The council was under a tight deadline to get the budget approved as tax bills will go out later this month. There will be no increase in the city portion of the tax rate next year, but the final figure won't be known until next week. The tax bill last year, including all components - city, county, schools and state - totaled $24.65 per thousand of assessed valuation.
