SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The unofficial detour around the Business Drive construction project in Sheboygan has the police department stepping up watch for speeders. Police have increased patrol of South 18th Street south of Washington Avenue following recent complaints and speed surveys of the area.
Captain Stephen Cobb says one way they are doing this is by letting residents identify speeding vehicles, and then sending out a warning letter. The letter will inform the vehicle's registered owner when the speeding incident took place and that it is only a warning. Cobb hopes the letter will change the motorist's driving habits so that they do not face a ticket if law enforcement catches them speeding in the area.
Other ways the department is deterring speeding is by having a speed trailer on the road and making the area a strict enforcement speed reduction zone.
Construction on Business Drive is expected to continue through the summer months.
