SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Yesterday was the first day back to school, and kids piled into Jefferson Elementary for classes.
Principal Zach Pethan says for some kids, it's necessary to knock the rust off after a vacation. "We're trying to get the kids accommodated to their classroom, to the school. Some of them are new, some of them are coming back after a long vacation and getting the summer-ness out of them." He says, however that he's excited to have kids back at school. "A lot of parents came in today, were excited about seeing their kids go back to school, excited about getting them stated of on the right foot for the school year. A couple of teary eyes for the kids that are going into kindergarten for the first time, but all in all it was a great day."
Pethan says we need to get our kids prepared for the future. "The better we treat them and the more resources and help and care and guidance we provide them, I feel our community is going to be in better shape. And eventually we're going to need them to take care of us, so we have to do our job and get them prepared for when that happens." He says that the district is always looking for help on that, and if people want to come in and be great models for the kids he's happy to have the help.
