SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The city's trees and the lakeshore will be up for discussion tonight at Common Council.
The city's public works department will be giving an update on the city's emerald ash borer issue. The beetles were first found in the city in March and the parks department has been working out plans to help residents deal with infested ash trees on their property, as well as mitigation and handling of the beetles on city trees. The beetles had already been detected in Random Lake and Holland over the past several years.
The city will also be exploring a number of ordinances to improve safety on South Pier and the lakeshore in general. That includes the creation of a new Water Safety Task Force, as well as paying for sidewalk repairs and improvements along South Pier and whether or not new railings can be installed for the safety of pedestrians on the pier.
Tonight's meeting starts at 6 pm.
