SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Two people are facing drug charges after a woman overdosed last week.
38-year-old Robert Rogers is charged with delivery of heroin. 23-year-old Jamie Betts faces charges in two separate cases, one for possession of narcotics, and then three more counts of possessing drugs in a jail.
According to the criminal complaints in the case, police first caught wind of the overdose after they spotted Betts being brought into an emergency room on August 3rd. She was unresponsive, and a friend who was with her told police that Rogers had shown up at her house with Jamie who was "nodding off." That's a term that means a heroin user will go in and out of consciousness in a near overdose. The friend also handed police a syringe with what appeared to be heroin inside, saying it belonged to Betts.
When Betts came to, she told police that she and Rogers had purchased some heroin earlier that day from a dealer who lives in some apartments on Georgia Avenue. She told police that she and Rogers went to Lakeview Park to shoot up, and that's the last thing she remembered before getting into the car.
Police went to talk to Rogers, who would only admit to picking up Betts in his car, at which point she started to overdose and nod off. He denied any drug use and told police he knew nothing else about Betts' statements.
Police took them both into custody, and while in custody in the jail, corrections officers spotted Betts with more pills in her cell. She was taken back to the hospital to get cleared, and when asked about how she got the medications inside the jail she told them she couldn't remember because she had a lot going on.
Betts remains in custody on a $500 cash bond. Rogers is being held on a $1,500 cash bond.
