SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Sheboygan North's long time champion boy's basketball coach Tom Desotell was honored this week, with the Mayor naming yesterday Coach Desotell Day in Sheboygan.

Desotell was honored with a proclamation from the city and a special sign from the public works department. Desotell says he's honored to have been able to coach basketball all these years. "It's been a lifetime of memories, that's for sure. It's been 49 years of coaching so it's certainly part of my life."

Desotell has formally retired as boy's coach, but that doesn't mean he's not helping kids. "Basketball camps through the summer months, we've got six sessions of Whiz Kids, and we're dealing with about 75 kids a week out there that are working hard during the summer to work on positive things." He's also staying on as Coach Emeritus at North to help the school transition to Eric Worth as their new head coach this school year.

The sign and the proclamation were all in conjunction with the annual North High Basketball Booster Golf Outing.
