SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Sheboygan's school board has a new member.
The board voted 4 to 2 last night to appoint Peter Madden to a vacant seat on the board.
Madden is an environmental engineer at Plastics Manufacturing and has twice run for the board in 2013 and 2015. He won out over wo other applicants for the open position last night. Madden says he's humbled to have been chosen, and that the district is in a good place to have so many people interested in board positions. "What I've realized each time is that there's always people coming forward. The district is very fortunate to have people coming forward."
During his interview with the board, Madden said that he believed that the primary role for the board is to ensure excellent communication between the district and the residents. He says that's especially important now that the maintenance referendum is coming up on the November elections. He also says his time working with the district as a volunteer will help him through his time on the board. "I'll just be bringing that sense of what the school district does within the community that I ope to help strengthen."
The other two candidates for the position were former teacher Kay Robbins and Sargento analyst Katie Checolinksi.
Madden will serve on the board through April at which point he'll have to run for the rest of his term.
