SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - There's new life for the former Dean's Verifine milk factory in Sheboygan.
City administrator Darryl Hoffland says another dairy company will be moving in. "Weyauwega Cheese has an accepted offer to purchase, and they're looking at moving into that building into the next couple of months. 45 to 50 jobs, so we're very excited as they add another dairy product line to that facility."
Dean Foods closed that plant in 2015 after it shut down the Verifine brand line. Weyauwega will be getting a 10-year $300,000 dollar loan from the city's redevelopment authority to help get the plant underway. Hoffland says he's happy to see another dairy company taking it's place in Sheboygan County. "We're known for dairy products, it's a cluster industry. It's a great synergy, and it's important for us to continue to look to add jobs and attract new businesses."
Weyauwega hasn't said what they'll be making at the facility, but they are planning on opening up retail space in the future. The plant is scheduled to begin operating by the end of the fall.
