SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - Sheboygan officials have closed off South Pier after three people were knocked into the water this afternoon.
The incident happened around 4pm after a large wave swept three adult males off the pier and into the harbor side of the pier. Rescue crews were called out including the Coast Guard, a rescue boat and several other marine vessels.
Sheboygan fire department battalion chief Keith Risse says that the Coast Guard was able to pull one of the victims from the water. He was brought to shore and then transported to Sheboygan Memorial. His name and condition have not been released.
The two other victims have not been located. Risse says that the Sheboygan County dive team is suspending its operations tonight because the conditions on the water have gotten too hazardous. Other crews including the Coast Guard are continuing their rescue operations.
Risse reminds people that while Lake Michigan is a fun place to swim and hang out on the beach, people need to be mindful of the water and the currents.
