SHEBOYGAN, Wis (WHBL) -- Sheboygan's public works department is getting ready for construction season with some special assessments for road repairs this summer.
Director David Biebel made a presentation last night before the first of those assessments was approved by the council. "Properties that are adjacent to it participate in the cost of that being reconstructed. We charge 50% or half the cost to the residents, the city picks up the other half." The first approved assessment is for North 6th St. from Niagara Ave. to Superior Ave. Further assessments up for a vote later this month include South 17th Street, Saemaan Avenue and Georgia Avenue.
Crews have been out patching potholes all year, but Biebel says they just keep coming. There's a reason you see larger potholes on busy intersections. "You get the turning movements, and the majority of traffic stopping and going and shoving the pavement, and there's a lot of wear and tear on it. So you'll see increased maintenance and degradation of that area." The city will be picking up the entire cost of the repairing intersections since there is no frontage along those.
While construction is already in full swing on the west side along Taylor Drive and at the I-43/Highway 28 intersection, Biebel says they'll be making sure people know about any construction in the rest of the city. "We'll have advance notice out when the construction occurs. We also send it out to police, fire, ambulance services, the transit companies, so everyone's well notified in advance of any road closures."
