SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) -- Sheboygan families can get their kids ready for summer biking with a bike rodeo with the Sheboygan Police Department on Saturday.

Chief Chris Domagalski says there will be plenty for kids to do at the events. "We've got a lot of stuff planned, they have a skills course, helmet fitting, some supplies of free helmets if the kids don't have helmets." He says the important part of the morning is to insure that kids are ready to be riding their bikes on streets and sidewalks.

The event is also there to teach people about handling their bikes responsibly. Domagalski reminds people that they need to not only lock up their bike, but also make sure to register it. "We recover more than 100 bicycles every year that we can't return to anybody because they're not registered at all. So if you pay a couple bucks and license that bike, and we get a hold of it, we'll have a chance to get it back to you." There will be a chance to register bikes at the event as well.

That rodeo starts at 9 am at St. Peter Claver Church at 1444 South 11th Street.
