SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) -- A Sheboygan man faces multiple citations and a misdemeanor charge for allegedly causing an accident on a major intersection this weekend.
49-year-old Darren Winter was cited on Sunday for OWI causing injury, driving with open intoxicants, and inattentive driving.
Investigators say a semi truck was stopped for a stoplight at the corner of Erie and Taylor with the van behind it when Winter allegedly failed to stop for the red light and crashed into the back of the van. That shoved it under the trailer of the semi truck and injured four of the seven people who were inside. All four of them were taken to area hospitals with non life-threatening injuries.
That crash also started a small fire inside the van, but the driver of the semi and a bystander were able to extinguish that fire before it got out of control.
None of the charges in the case are felonies, so formal charges may be filed by the district attorney at a later date.
