MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) -- A group of workers from Milwaukee have fresh wheels to get to work in Sheboygan.

The Sheboygan County Economic Development Corporation donated a pair of vans to the Joseph Project in Milwaukee on Monday. Director Dane Checolinski says getting people to Sheboygan County is a matter of funding and tax base. "On average, every day, three people are retiring and two people are entering the workforce. We have to come up with the solutions to find more people to work and to move to our community." Checolinski says thousands of job positions are currently open in the county and that local governments and agencies need to do more to get employees in those positions.

The Joseph Project through the Greater Praise Church of God in Christ has been helping get people to good paying jobs in the area. "This program has been spearheaded by the church, and right now they are making 24 trips a week to 5 different companies, four of them in Sheboygan County, with 50 people who have found work, and this simply allows them to double their capacity right now." Checolinski says they picked the Project because it not only drives people to jobs, but also offers job training and training in the soft skills that can be applied to any job a person might be looking for.

The church is currently putting around 9,000 miles a month on their old vehicles. The new vans are wrapped with advertising for the Someplace Better program, and Checolinski says that will help highlight the opportunities that people have to come and live and work in the county.
