WASHINGTON, D.C. (WHBL) -- A new bill is going to help the Coast Guard get a more accurate picture of the Great Lakes shoreline.
Senator Tammy Baldwin says the Digital Coast Act is a bipartisan measure aimed at helping the Coast Guard and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration monitor the coastline and prepare for storms, cope with varying water levels and strengthen coastal economic development planning efforts. The bill will help the two groups provide up to date information to communities using their latest technology.
Baldwin says Wisconsin's Great Lakes communities could use help in making their shorelines ready for use and safe for residents. "Shoreline communities face a variety of challenges in keeping their harbors open, their waters clean, and their beaches ready for visitors."
The bill has made it out of committee and is headed to the floor of the Senate, and Baldwin calls it a bipartisan effort between herself and Alaska Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski.
