SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) -- A Sheboygan man is accused of attacking a police officer at the police station after being arrested for OWI.
37-year-old Benjamin Kerpe faces one count each of battery to an officer, obstruction, and 4th time OWI.
According to a criminal complaint, Kerpe was pulled over by police after they spotted him driving erratically on 8th Street early Sunday morning.
The officer on scene says he smelled alcohol on Kerpe's breath ,and that he was being difficult when trying to talk with the officer. The officer asked Kerpe to get out of the vehicle, and he refused, leaning further into the vehicle to prevent being removed. He was eventually bodily removed from the vehicle and transported to the police station.
When he was brought in, Kerpe refused to perform any sobriety tests or submit to a breathalyzer test. Officers obtained a search warrant for a blood draw. He then fought with officers trying to take a mugshot, and then punched an officer in the face.
Kerpe is currently being held on a $3,000 cash bond and will be back in court May 4th for a preliminary hearing
