Alleged Drunk Driver Knocks Out Power To Parts Of Sheboygan

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) -- Police are investigating a drunk driving case that knocked out power to parts of Sheboygan early this morning.

Police were called out to the 2300 block of North 10th street at around 1:30 Saturday morning for a call of a vehicle striking a power pole. Other calls came in that the vehicle had left the scene. Officers arrived to find poles on both the east and west side of the street had been struck and damaged. Live wires were hanging in the street due to the damage.

Officers followed a trail of fluid and debris to find a pick up truck stopped on a dead end on the 2800 block of North Taylor Drive. A man was found asleep in the vehicle with a head injury. He was transported to Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The 19-year-old driver is under investigation for OWI and underage drinking. He's not being identified but police say he's originally from Michigan and is working in the area.

Alliant Energy was on scene about a half hour later to restore power to the area.
