SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) -- Two people are under arrest after police caught them with a stolen police handgun.

20-year-old Theo Childress faces charges of felony theft. 17-year-old Jazmin Torres faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon.

According to a criminal complaint, officers spotted Childress' car on North 10th Street. Officers knew the owner of the car had a warrant out for his arrest, and so they pulled him over. The officer identified both Childress and Torres and called out the K-9 unit to search the car. Police say the dog found some marijuana in a pouch, and while officers were still searching the vehicle, they found a handgun in Torres' purse. That gun was traced back as being stolen from a police department in Texas.

Police say Torres told them that the gun wasn't hers and that Childress had told her to put it in her purse when he had first seen the officer pull up behind his car. Childress offered no explanation to police as to why the gun was in the car or if he knew it was stolen.

Childress is currently in custody on a $2,500 cash bond and will be back in court on April 6th for a preliminary hearing.

Torres is free on a signature bond and will be back in court in May.
