SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Sheboygan County’s Meals on Wheels will have its 16th annual Love Bowls event this Sunday from 10 to 3 at Sheboygan South High School.
CEO Kelly Heyn says it will be similar to past year with over 70 homemade soups available for people to eat for 20-dollars. “You show up, you pay once, you get a beautiful Talavera pottery bowl and you get to have a bottomless bowl of soup. You eat and eat and eat and eat while listening to live entertainment.”
There will also be the option to get a salad plate or upgrade to a Talavera dinner plate for 30-dollars. In addition to the soup there will be other food items as well as live music from area entertainers.
This year’s event is different because Meals on Wheels is going to use the funds raised at Love Bowls to help pay off the debt they took on when they became a fresh meals location.
Heyn says the one-point-eight million dollar mortgage is now down to just under 600-thousand, but she still sees it as a threat to the organization. That's why the action of an anonymous donor a few months ago has given her hope. “He offered to provide a matching grant of 300-thousand dollars if we raise 300-thousand dollars by March 31st. He’ll match it and our mortgage will disappear.”
Heyn says they now need 60-thousand dollars to reach their target, which could happen with a larger than normal turnout at this year’s Love Bowls event.
Once the mortgage is paid off, Heyn says this will also allow them to think of future expansion to better serve those in Sheboygan County who need a hot meal.
