TOWN OF HERMAN, WI (WHBL) - Lakeland College’s new Lunch and Learn program is getting help from AT&T Wisconsin to keep the program going.  The telecommunications company presented the college with a two-thousand dollar grant Thursday.

Julie Roberts with AT&T Wisconsin says her company most often supports high school based programs, but notes the Lakeland program has a focus on helping college students transition from high school and keep them in college.  "Those first years or two those can be rather difficult periods to get into a new rhythm, a new way of learning.  And this program is going to help these students figure out how to stick it out and how to really ingrain themselves and find the value of getting that four year education.”

“We’re really pleased to be involved with that," adds Roberts.  "We’re so focused on education, and we really do want to see people succeed and get solid careers and be able to fend for themselves in real life.  I wish something like this had been around when I was going through that period.  It was like you knew you should go to school and you need to graduate, and this one puts some depth around that and really makes it more tangible for the kids.”

The Lunch and Learn program offers students help with academics, career preparation, peer mentoring and leadership development twice a month during a semester, led by college staff and community members.
