LeMahieu on Busy Spring Session in Madison

MADISON, WI (WHBL) - State Senator Devin LeMahieu will be holding the second of two scheduled public listening sessions within his Senate district Monday.  That session will include one at Lakeshore Technical College in Cleveland starting at noon, which will also be attended by area Assemblyman Tyler Vorpagel.

The listening sessions are a chance for LeMahieu to get away from the State Capitol, which has been a hub of activity since the Legislature started its spring 2016 session in early January.  It seems every day has resulted in news of new bills being introduced, committee hearings held on bills, and bills that are being voted on both in committee and by full legislative bodies.

LeMahieu tells WHBL News it has been a busy time. “I’ve been having multiple committee hearings at the same time, jumping from one to another, just trying to keep abreast of what’s going on and stay as informed as possible.”

LeMahieu says the reason for the busy timeframe is that once the fall election cycle can begin the Legislature can not be in session. “After April 15 we can’t pass any laws anymore because that’s when those who are up for elections this year can start taking out papers.  So everybody’s working on their bills that they’ve been working on and trying to get as much done as possible.”

LeMahieu says he will be busy with a number of bills that he has authored and supports, along with committee work that he is a member of.
