SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - If the allegations against him are true, a Sheboygan man could face up to 60 years in prison for sexually assaulting a younger cousin over a four year period.
Sheboygan County prosecutors charged 19 year old Adrian Reinwand Tuesday with one count of repeated sexual assault of a child. The charge is for his alleged interaction with the female cousin between June of 2006 and March of 2010.
The criminal complaint against him details what the victim told Sheboygan Police the week of December 28, 2015 after coming forward with the claims.
She said that the assaults began when she was six years old. They included incidents where Reinwand joined her under blankets where he took off his pants and forced her to touch him. It also included her taking off her pants and having him touch her.
The victim also talked about three or four incidents inside the basement of her home, some of them happening when she was six to eight years old. Reinwand is accused of forcing her to touch his private areas, despite telling him no, and forcing her to take off her clothes and touching her.
The complaint adds the victim detailed physical abuse by Reinwand, which included being pushed up against a wall while strangled, and attempts to shove her down steps in the attic at least twice.
The victim says Reinwand told her she would get in trouble if she told others about their interactions. Also, he said she would end up having his children. The acts, however, came to an end when she was 13.
The complaint includes statements by the victim which detail what impact the alleged assaults had on her. She described herself as a happy child before all of this occurred. Since then, she has become depressed, not wanting to go out or touched by anyone, losing sleep and a drop in grades because she kept focusing on the assaults. She added she needed to come forward in order to move forward.
Police were able to arrest Reinwand to interview him. The complaint states even before the interview started, he denied sexually assaulting his cousins. Once the interview began, he continued to deny the allegations, adding he could not remember what happened then. He claims it is due to his memory problems as he is diagnosed with bi-polar, ADHD, ADD, OCD, and LD.
Reinwand's charge does have a repeater enhancer added to it. Online court records show this is due to a 2013 offense where he was charged and sentenced for second degree sexual assault of a child felony. He was order to serve nine months in the local jail in 2014 after he violated a previous sentence for the charge.
