BEAVER DAM, WI (WHBL/KFIZ) - The Beaver Dam man who was robbed of a TV and van after taking in a homeless man during a snow storm last week is slowly being made whole.

Ronald Gafner, known as “Safe Ride Ron,” put up 48-year-old Brian Krieger after he picked him up from a bar and was unable to find him a place for the night. When he awoke the next morning his flat screen TV was gone and a van he was keeping for a friend was missing.

The van was found in the City of Milwaukee the next day and, thanks to anonymous donor who heard about Ron’s story, a new flat screen television was delivered to Ron by Sheriff Dale Schmidt and two deputies.

Schmidt says the anonymous donor didn’t want any recognition. “It just goes to show there are some really good people in the world that understand that this is a very difficult thing for somebody like Safe Ride Ron had to go through, and I think we got him just about whole.  He’s got a TV now and we’re getting his van back, and Ron is still out picking people up and giving them a safe ride home.”

As for Krieger, he was picked up in Waukesha County over the weekend on a probation hold and will be returned to Dodge County for questioning about the thefts.
