PLYMOUTH, WI (WHBL) - Naturally, the Cheese Capitol of the World would celebrate the coming of the New Year with a symbol synonymous with the city.  The City of Plymouth is ready to celebrate the New Year with its ninth annual lowering of a big wedge of cheese; a wooded crate decorated as such.

Plymouth Arts Center Executive Director Donna Hahn says people who want to see the Plymouth Fire Department lower this symbol of the city will need to get there early this evening.  "At 10 o’clock we’re going to drop the big cheese.  We’re going to be ahead of New York time this year, and we want more families to come out and enjoy the evening with us.”

Hahn adds there will be plenty of other activities taking place. “We’re going to start off around 8:30 with The Jamies & Friends, they have been playing gigs in Sheboygan County and beyond for the last few years, and they’ve going to play some fantastic music.  From nine until 10, we’re going to have a couple of bonfires going on in front of our building.  We invite families to come to the arts center to make pudgie pies and smores.”

The party does not stop after the cheese drop. “Then you can come back into the arts center and enjoy more music," says Hahn.  "We have an appetizer table supplied by the Sartori Company, so we’ll have fantastic award winning Sartori cheeses.  People can bring something if they like to share a dessert or snack.”  When midnight does come, people still around can enjoy a complimentary toast.

Hahn says the events this evening are free thanks to sponsors like the Sartori Company.  That cheese maker will also be encouraging families to come early. “The best part about it is that the Sartori Company is providing the first 250 families in attendance with a free bag of cheese.  So it’s approximately a 15-dollar value.”
