SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - People, businesses and local governments were busy Tuesday trying to clean up from the first winter storm of the season, where eight to 12 inches fell across Sheboygan County.
Sheboygan Mayor Mike Vandersteen tells WHBL News the city has gotten questions about how they plowed their streets during and after the storm. He provided us with a statement Tuesday evening detailing the decisions made since Monday.
"Monday evening the Sheboygan Department of Public Works crew began plowing the emergency routes. After that was done they shifted their attention to the neighborhood streets. The storm was forecasted to end about 2-3 AM. The storm continued through the night and into this morning. The decision was made that the emergency routes needed to be plowed again in time for Tuesday morning drive time. Many of the neighborhood streets had only received one pass down the center when this was done. The remainder of the morning and the afternoon Tuesday the plowing crews returned to the neighborhood streets to begin further cleanup on the even side of the street. They ended their shift at 5:00 p.m. Another shift was called in at 11:00 PM after residents have parked for Wednesday on the even side of the street. They will then be able to clean up the center and the odd side of the neighborhood streets. "I am sorry to hear that many neighborhood streets were a challenge for residents today. I think that all of the neighborhood street issues will be cleaned up tonight by the shift that begins at 11:00 PM. I hope that residents understand the priority of the DPW placed on cleaning snow from the city Emergency routes before finishing the neighborhood streets."
