SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Strong winds, white-out conditions, and patches of glare ice caused problems on Sheboygan County roads on Tuesday. The Sheriff’s Department said they received reports of 22 vehicles in the ditch and several accidents. In one incident on I-43, which occurred about 5pm near County FF, a semi jackknifed and slid into the ditch due to a patch of glare ice. There were at least 3 other vehicles which slid off the road in that area about the same time. Both northbound lanes were blocked for about a half hour around 6:30pm as the semi was removed.
A Plymouth woman was seriously injured Tuesday afternoon in a weather-related crash on Highway 57 south of Plymouth. Lt. John Detienne said it happened about three o’clock when a 32 year old Kimbely Thome lost control of her car on the snow covered road, went into the median and rolled over. She was ejected and landed on the road. Two children in the car were uninjured. Thome was taken to Aurora in Grafton and later flown to Froedtert in Milwaukee.
A Plymouth man and his two children were injured in a weather-related crash on County RR west of Cedar Grove Tuesday afternoon. The Sheriff’s Department said 26 year old Shanon Gerken lost control of his van on an icy stretch of road, went into the ditch and rolled onto its side against a utility pole. Gerken and his 7-month old and 3 year old children suffered apparent minor injury, although the 3 year old was taken by ambulance to Sheboygan Memorial.
